I’m raising funds for Down Syndrome TAS to help families see that Down syndrome is worth celebrating!
With the theme “Step Up Your Way # 21” I am taking on the challenge to plant (a minimum) of 21 trees in a “Forest of Reflection” at our home on Flinders Island during the month of October.
The Forest of Reflection will symbolise the role Down syndrome plays in celebrating diversity and inclusiveness in our communities, and that everything will grow to its potential when supported and nurtured.
Everyone who donates over $50 can have their name on a little plaque on a tree, where they can come to sit, reflect and enjoy watching the Forest grow, knowing that they have contributed to something special and long lasting.

Thank you everyone!
Nearly 100 trees in the ground so far and more still need planting! It’s been hard work to keep up with the planting in response to the incredible amount of support from you all! Thank you all so much who have contributed to such a worthy cause, and enabled the Forest of Reflection to manifest!
For the final push to the end of October, we’re going to raise the bar one last time to $10 000!

The community Thank you BBQ was quite overwhelming! So many people turned up to actually work! I never said it was a working Bee; I thought people would just come plant their tree, attach their plaque and then just relax and enjoy the BBQ and the beauty of the place, but instead a Forest was planted and a great time was had by all!

Ready for tomorrow!
Got the last boxes of trees from the Tree Action Group and all the bits of pieces for the BBQ.
The weather forecast looks good so it should be a fun day with who ever turns up from the wonderful Flinders Island Community!
An amazing donation to the project arrived on the back of two trucks this morning-! kunzea mulch - compliments of Stephan and Ben Backhaus.
Just can’t express my gratitude enough to these guys for this most thoughtful and practical gift.

Wowsers! Reached the target AGAIN! Let’s see if we can reach $9000!
We’re having a BBQ next Sunday (October 17th) for the amazingly generous and supportive Flinders Island Community who have donated to the cause, to not only thank them, but give them the opportunity to plant their own tree and attach their name plaque in the ever growing Forest of Reflection.

Joey and the future Forest of Reflection!
Here’s Joey with the first batch of trees which are now in the ground! These beautiful natives are grown from locally collected seed and raised with love by the Tree Action Group here on Flinders Island by a small but dedicated group of wonderful people.

Planted the first 7 trees!

I’ve started making the name plaques for sponsor’s trees by cutting open used aluminium cans and writing with a dremel. I started with the flinders island people as we’re inviting them up for a tree planting picnic/bbq soon.

The support and generosity has been overwhelming!
In just over 24 hours we reached the next target of $3000!
We have decided to raise it again, this time to $5000!
We hope you check in for updates here from time to time to see photos of our progress, and see the target creeping closer! Please pass on the details to anyone you think may be interested, and browse through the other people fundraising too! There’s some special little people doing great things who deserve our support too!
Here’s a picture of Joey riding high in his bean-bag in the wheel barrow at the site of the Forest of Reflection!
We reached our $2000 goal within 24 hours so have raised the target to $3000! We also reached over 21 people within 24 hours, so it looks like we will have a Forest indeed! Thank you everyone for your amazing support and generosity. It really feels amazing to live amongst such big hearted people.
